Note: We’ve noticed that there might be a few hiccups with text messaging between Wisephone and other Apple devices. With Apple’s recent launch of native RCS support in iOS 18, some users have been experiencing inconsistent RCS functionality when chatting between Android and iPhone. While RCS can work well at first, it seems there are moments when conversations slip back to SMS, even when both devices are connected to data and RCS is turned on, or sometimes messages don’t come through at all. Google has acknowledged that the issue seems to be on Apple's side, and Apple is reportedly aware of the bug. Temporary fixes, such as restarting the iPhone, may restore RCS functionality for a short period before the problem recurs.
If you've switched from an iPhone and are not receiving messages from iPhone users or group messages from other iPhones, please try the following steps:
- If you come from an Apple product, grab it and go to Settings > Messages > Turn OFF iMessage. (MAC- Open iMessage, Tap Messages in top left toolbar, and select Settings, iMessage, Remove phone number)
-
Deregister iMessage: If you previously used an iPhone, you can confirm your number has been deregistered from the iMessage ecosystem by going online to Apple's website:
1. Go to the Deregister iMessage (https://selfsolve.apple.com/deregister-imessage) page on Apple's website.
2. Scroll down to "No Longer Have Your iPhone? section.
3. Enter your 10-digit mobile number in the Phone Number field.
4. Click Send Code.
5. When you receive the text message with the 6-digit confirmation code, enter the code in the Confirmation Code field.
6. Click Submit. You've successfully removed your number from iMessage.
- Check if Google Messages is enabled – If you haven’t already, try enabling Google Messages in the Wisephone Portal (portal.getwisephone.com) and setting the Google Messages app as your default messaging app (Open the app once it installs and choose the double chat bubble icon as the default). This will allow your phone to use RCS Chat, which can improve group texting and delivery issues.
Open Google Messages → Tap the circular profile picture → Settings → RCS chats – Make sure RCS is enabled and connected. You can also toggle it off and then back on.
-
Message App Cache Clear: Clearing the app cache may help with syncing issues in group chats.
a. Settings > Open System Settings > Apps.
b. Tap Messages.
c. Scroll down and select Storage.
d. Tap Clear cache.
e. Back out and select Google Messages, repeat steps c and d.
- If you were in a group chat using iMessage, you need to be removed and then re-added to the group or create a new group after inserting your SIM card into the Wisephone II. iMessage group messages won't automatically convert to MMS group messages; they must be manually triggered by adding or re-adding the Wisephone II number. Creating a new group triggers this automatically, as your number will be recognized as a non-iPhone.
Note: Encourage your friends or family to turn RCS off and then back on in their iMessage Settings, and restart their phones before adding you to the group.
- If you have trouble with select individuals messaging you from an iPhone, please ask them to delete your iCloud email from your contact on their phone. You can also ask them to toggle the SMS setting on under their Message settings.
- Network Reset: Go to Settings > Open System Settings > General Management > Reset > Reset mobile network Settings (look for the verification messages just above the button). After that, head back to Connections. Select Mobile Networks and Access Point Names, and make sure the bubble on the left is filled in. Then, restart your device and test!
